>>Now, Zimbabwe is in a coal production spree, mainly aimed at lowering the imports. In a recent disclosure, the Mines and Mining Development Minister of that country said in the sidelines of a conference that around USD 300 Million of investment was gained to raise the coal output in the country. Accordingly, the coal production there is expected to reach 8 MnT in 2018 from 2 MnT in 2017, according to the Minister.
>>In what will lift up coal consumption in India, the state-run power major—NTPC Limited—plans to start commercial operations of its 1,600 (2×800) MW supercritical coal-based power plant, being constructed at Darlipalli in Sundergarh of Odisha, by Sep’19.
According to an official, one of the units will be put into commercial operations tentatively by Mar’19; while, full commercial operations of the plant will start by Sep’19.
The plant is estimated to consume around 8 MnT of coal on annual basis.
