>> Steel production in the world in 2017 scored over the production in 2016 by 5.3%. According to the latest data released by the World Steel Association, 1,691.2 MnT of crude steel was produced in the world in 2017.
China topped the production chart for 2017 with 831.7 MnT of steel output, with around 5.7% increase over the previous year production.
Japan occupied the second position with 104.7 MnT of steel production. The volume remained almost identical with that in 2016.
India was the third in the crude steel production list for 2017, with a production of 101.4 MnT, which was a rise of 6.2% year-on-year. And with the higher steel production in the country in place, Coking Coal consumption with increase further.
>> In a gradual transition, Egypt is now slowly becoming a booming market for international Thermal Coal and Petcoke sellers due to the growing demand there. Preference for Petcoke is on the rise due to the higher calorific value. Imports of Thermal Coal will rise in the long term as four Thermal Power Plants are being planned to be set-up in the country.
>> Petcoke imports in Turkey fell to around 4.18 MnT in 2017, down by 6.6% year-on-year. US remained as the largest exporter accounting for 78.3% of the exports. Venezuela was in the second position of exporting Petcoke to Turkey in 2017 accounting for around 11.2% of the exports.
In Dec’17, international Petcoke exports to Turkey were at 577,233 MT, which was more than two-fold of the Nov’17 figures.
