Coal Market Snapshots

>> The Indian Government is emphasizing upon attracting investments for setting up a plant to produce Methanol from domestic coal. The NITI Aayog has recommended setting up a 15,000 ton per day coal to Methanol plant to reduce Crude Oil imports in India.

>> In a recent report by the National Development and Reform Commission, the number of coal mines in China has dropped to around 7,000 from around 10,800 in 2015. The reduction has been due to the efforts of the Chinese government to close down excessive coal mines to rationalize demand with supply.

>>Coal-fired power plants are expected to continue exerting dominance in the next two decades in the Asian region, despite tighter regulations in respect to coal usage, according to a think-tank. It is expected to attract investments worth USD 250 billion in coal-fired power plant projects in the next decade.
