Coal Market Snapshots

>> State-run Coal India Limited is exploring avenues for acquiring Coking Coal assets in foreign countries. Although, the decision was taken up last year, very few blocks have come up in foreign lands for sale. In the near future, six Coking Coal mines in India will be auctioned.

>> The Board of Directors of Coal India Limited has given the go ahead to award coal contracts to 10 power plants, which won the supply in the auction, conducted in Sep’17, in which 27.18MnT of annual coal linkages were booked by 10 successful bidders, which committed to generate power at discounted rates of 4 paisa to 1 paisa per unit.

Among the bidders, Adani Power Maharashtra and Adani Power Rajasthan together secured supplies of 9.9 MnT; KSK Mahanadi Power bagged 6.8 MnT; Lalitpur Power Generation Company secured 5.6 MnT; GMR Kamlanga Energy won 1.5 MnT and GVK Power bagged 1.7 MnT.

>>Spot prices of the Premium HCC has crossed the USD 250/MT FoB Australia mark on account of tighter availability in Australia. In the meantime, export availability in USA also getting scarce due the Christmas holidays getting near.
