>>Coal shortage has hit the captive power plants in India. The prime reason for the shortage is the government order in place to the Singareni Collieries Company Limited to divert more coal to the thermal power plants. The company supplies around 3 MnT of coal to about 25 captive power plants in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
>>Subsequent to the Petcoke ban by the Supreme Court, industries in the Delhi/NCR have started moving towards usage of coal as an alternative fuel. USA origin coal has become the most preferred coal due to the high GCV of around 7,200 GAR in comparison with that for Petcoke at around 7,600 GAR.
>> In Sep’17, around 2.78 MnT of Thermal Coal was imported in Turkey; and that was up by 18.9% over the imports in Aug’17, according to the information received.
