>> Low wholesale power prices, over-supplied renewable energy market and low Natural Gas prices seem to have lowered the attractiveness of coal-based power generation in USA. Recently, Vistra Energy has announced to close down two of its coal-fired power plants at Texas by early 2018.
>> Coal shortage has put around 40% of the power generation capacity under outage in Maharashtra and Rajasthan. According to the data published by the Central Electricity Authority, 13,555 MW out of the total capacity of 32,973 MW in Maharashtra is in outage; in Rajasthan 4,865 MW of the total installed capacity of 11,114 MW is shut down temporarily due to inadequacy of coal supply .
>> Nine coal mines will be shut-down at the Shanxi region of China within this year as part of the efforts of the Chinese government to slow down coal production in that country to battle oversupply.
