>> A total quantity of 27.8 MnT of coal was booked in the recently concluded bidding under the Scheme for Harnessing and Allocating Koyala Transparently in India (SHAKTI), conducted by Coal India Limited.
In the bidding, close to 9.2 MnT was booked at a discount of 2 paisa per unit, and also at 3 paisa per unit discount for 9.08 MnT.
The major participants were: Adani Power, GVK Power, Bajaj Hindustan, GMR and Reliance Power.
The bidding was for power units with power purchase agreements (PPA), but no long term coal supply agreements.
>> The Coal Ministry of the Government of India will deliberate with the Indian steel makers tomorrow (15 Sep’17) to examine reasons for the poor response to the fifth round of coal mine auction, which was cancelled. Six Coking Coal blocks were earmarked for the auction; five of which are in Jharkhand and one in Madhya Pradesh.
>> State-run power utility, NTPC Limited, will start coal mining at its Talaipalli block in Raigarh district by November 2019. The block linkage was granted by the Coal Ministry to the power major. Besides, NTPC will will outsource the coal sampling work to an external party in respect to its upcoming 1,600 MW Super Thermal Power Plant at Lara in Raigarh of Chhattisgarh.
