>>State-run NTPC Limited, the largest public sector power producer in India, is expected to begin coal production from its captive Talaipalli mine in Chhattisgarh’s Raigarh district by 2019. The mine has a gross coal reserve of 1,267 MnT, with excavation capacity of 18 MnTPA.
>> To maintain adequacy of coal supply, the Coal Ministry has asked Coal India Limited to ramp up production and dispatch around 2 MnT per day against 1.6 MnT. The directive of the ministry has come when the power plants in the country are with low coal stocks.
>>The Faridabad Industries Association has met the Union Minister of Environment to apprise him of the grave consequences of the Petcoke ban, ordered by Supreme Court, in Delhi/NCR with effect from 1Nov’17. The association told that the ban will result in closure of around 5,000 industrial units and will render around 25 lakh workers jobless; and these units were not prepared for switching over to alternative fuels in the short intervening period.
