Coal Imports into Bangladesh to Rise More than Two-Fold in Feb’17 M-o-M

Coal imports into Bangladesh have gone up remarkably during Feb’17, mainly due to the steeply rising consumption by the brick makers as construction activities are gaining momentum.

According to the inputs received by CoalMint, coal imports into that country in Feb’17 are expected to go up to around 506.80 ‘000MT, which will surpass the imports in Feb’16, at 294 ‘000MT, by 72.46%. On month-on-month basis, the imports during the current month will also be over and above that in the previous month by 138.26%. During Jan’16, 212.7 ‘000MT of coal was imported into that country.

Moreover, coal supply from India through the Meghalaya region has come to a temporary halt, as such imports from other countries have escalated. Coal imports into that country during Feb’17 have been coming from Indonesia and Mozambique.
