CIL’s monthly coal production has increased by 8.7% in Sep’16 as compared to last month. In contrast, yearly coal production has registered a downfall of 5.2% compared with Sep’15.
Coal India Limited, the world’s largest coal miner, has produced about 35.2 MnT coal with a significant growth of 8.7% in Sep’16. In comparison with last year, CIL’s monthly production has fallen by 5.2% during the month.
In view of estimated target, CIL has achieved only 85% of his assigned target which was 41.5 MnT set for the month. And again fails to achieve its monthly target by 15% in Sep’16.
It is to be noted that out of the total 8 subsidiaries of CIL, all subsidiaries performed below the target level during the month. SECL and MCL, two highest producing subsidiaries of CIL, has produced highest quantity about 9.4 MnT and 10 MnT coal in the month.

Quantity in MnT
CIL Misses Offtake target by 5 MnT in Sep’16
CIL achieved only 88% of its offtake target and dispatched 37.7 MnT in Sep’16. However, compare to last year its offtake supply has dropped by 6.7%.
Out of the all subsidiaries, only MCL has supplied more than 100% of its monthly offtake target in Sep’16. SECL & NCL offtake was 89% and 91%, delivered 9.8 MnT and 5.6 MnT coal respectively. CCL, NEC and WCL have achieved offtake target of 71%, 135% and 78% respectively.
CIL’s Performance in H1 FY17
Since the beginning of FY17, the company could not able to achieve its production target every month. In the first six month (H1 FY17) of this fiscal the company had produced about 230 MnT coal instead of targeted 255 MnT for the same period.
Meanwhile, CIL’s half yearly (Apr-Sep’16) performance has grew marginally by 0.2% which was at 229.54 MnT in the same period of last fiscal FY16. CIL has set a coal production target of 598.61 MnT for FY17.
