CIL’s Coal Dispatch to Power Plants Down 7% M-o-M in Feb’18

According to the recent data released by Coal Ministry, Coal India Ltd (CIL) has reported a decline of 7% in monthly coal supplies of the power sector during Feb’18. The company had dispatched 37.76 MnT coal to the power stations in Feb’18, against 40.6 MnT in Jan’17.

It was the second successive month that CIL had recorded fall in Power Plants’ coal dispatch on the monthly basis. However, on the yearly basis, Coal to the power sector had increased 3.3% from 36.54 MnT in Feb’17.

The Coal Ministry’s report has underlined that the outstanding dues payable by power sector to CIL was INR 10,136.14 Crore, till Feb’18. Out of the total amount, the sum of INR 8693.93 was accounted for undisputed dues.

CIL’s coal dispatch to the power sector totaled 411.3 MnT during Apr’17-Feb’18, 7.2% higher than the dispatch of 383.8 MnT coal recorded in the corresponding period of 2016-17.

SCCL’s Coal Dispatch to Power Plants:
Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL), following in the footsteps of CIL, has also recorded fall in coal supply to the power plants during Feb’18. SCCL’s coal dispatch had decreased 12% M-o-M to 4.39 MnT in Feb’18, which was also 7% lower on the year compared with 4.7 MnT in Feb’17.

During Apr’17-Feb’18 period, SCCL has dispatched 48.12 MnT coal to the power sector, thereby recording a growth of 4.3% Y-o-Y compared with 46.14 MnT in Apr’16-Feb’17.

Both CIL and SCCL had also witnessed a fall in overall coal dispatch on the monthly basis, in Feb’18.
