CIL to Offer Coal to Non-Power Sectors to Lower Imports

Strengthening its stance to bring down coal imports in the country, the state-run miner—Coal India Limited (CIL)—has made it clear that coal will be offered to domestic non power consumers in lieu of 50% of the import component during this fiscal.

Coal will be provided to non power consumers, such as cement, fertilizer and steel firms ‘as is where is’ basis. However, adequate care will be taken to ensure that supplies to the power sector are not hampered by the move.

Coal will be provided from the CIL subsidiaries—South Eastern Coalfields Limited, Central Coalfields Limited and Eastern Coalfields Limited.
