Coal India (CIL), a state owned largest coal producer, has targeted to produce about 49 MnT more coal in this fiscal as compared to targeted in FY16.
Today, CIL has announced the target of yearly coal production, which has set to 598.6 MnT for FY17. The target set by Coal India is 49 MnT higher than last fiscal. The given target has fixed by the ministry on the basis of coal availability of CIL, corresponding with quantity committed for Thermal Power Plants in FSA (Fuel Supply Agreement). This was stated by Shri Piyush Goyal, Minister of State (IC) for Power, Coal & New and Renewable Energy in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha today.
However, supply of coal by CIL to power utilities has been escalated largely since FY13. Whilst, supply has grown from 353.83 MnT in FY14 to 385.40 MnT in FY15 and further to 409.14 MT (provisional) in FY16.
For the year FY17, the target of CIL’s off-take is 598.61 MnT. Out of this, 450 MnT will be supplied to power sector utilities.
During FY16, coal stock of CIL has increased by 4.2 MnT to 57.7 MnT (as on 1 Apr’16) from 53.5 MnT (as on 1 Apr’15). On account of regulated lifting by power utility sector in view of their comfortable coal stock position of 38.9 MnT as on 31 Mar’16, which is equivalent to 27 days’ requirement, the minister added.
CIL’s coal production in FY16
Coal India, the world’s greatest coal producer, registered a total coal production of 536 MnT, out of targeted 550 MnT in FY16. With the conclusion of financial year, production figure is out, depicting that the giant registered a growth of 8.5% in FY16. CIL had produced 494 MnT of coal in FY15, which grew by 42 MnT in the last fiscal.
