Coal India Produces 37.1 MnT of coal in Sep’15 against targeted 38.7 MnT, also has missed its production target by 4.4% for Q2 FY’16.
According to latest release, largest Indian coal producer, CIL has produced about 1 MnT more coal in Sep’15, M-o-M. However, has missed the production target by 4% for the month.
Amid huge annual Indian coal demand, assessed at about 910 MnT for FY16, CIL has again missed its production target by about 4% for Sept’16, fifth time in a row. The firm has produced about 37.17 MnT coal against targeted 38.77 MnT.
According to the release by Indian coal ministry, annual coal demand for FY16 has grown up to 910 MnT. Centre has planned about 550 MnT of coal production from CIL, and about 150 MnT from SCCL and other captive blocks. Whereas centre has planned about 210 MnT from import by fuel starved sectors including both regulated and non-regulated sectors.
SteelMint has assessed that India has imported about 15.1 MnT of coal in Sept’15 against 16.9 MnT in Aug’15.
CCL and NCL emerged as the star performers for the month among all eight subsidiaries of CIL, achieving the production target by 105%.

It should be noted that for the last fiscal, a target of 505 MnT of coal production was set for CIL. But it had produced about 494 MnT, missing by about 3%. This year CIL has been allocated a production target of 550 MnT.
