Coal India Ltd (CIL) has decided to extend the deadline for submission of expression of interest (EoI) from power generation companies for rationalizing their coal linkages.
The miner had invited EoI from the power generation companies (Gencos) who were willing to avail linkage rationalization by providing details such as applied coal company, coalfield, grade of coal and quantity against which the linkage was acquired.
The Gencos were also asked to furnish the details of the desired coal company to which the existing linkage was intended to be transferred by assessing the reduction in average cost of coal transportation.
However, on account of the extension of the period of COVID-19 linked lock-down and receipt of the request from power plants facing difficulty in data collection, CIL has extended the deadline for EoI submission from 23 Apr’20 to 10 May’20.
The rationalization exercise was initiated by the Ministry of Coal under which coal linkage of a thermal power plant may be transferred from one coal company to another based on the availability and future production plan of the company.
The provision was made to reduce the landed cost of coal which would be indirectly reflected upon cost of power generated.
