CIL’s monthly coal production has outshined coal offtake for the first time in FY18.
Coal India Ltd (CIL) has reported an increase of 11% M-o-M in monthly coal production to 51.29 MnT during Nov’17, against 46.14 MnT in Oct’17. On the yearly basis, monthly output was up 3% compared with 50 MnT coal produced during Nov’16.
CIL had achieved 93% of the monthly coal production target of 54.91 MnT set for Nov’17. While the total coal production of 329.30 MnT during Apr’17-Nov’17 also fell short by 5% than the target of 347.69 MnT set for the period.
However, on account of CIL’s recent efforts to increase productivity, total coal output in FY18 has witnessed minor increment of 1.8% during Apr’17-Nov’17, compared with the production achieved during the same period in FY17.
CIL’s monthly coal offtake too had crossed the 50 MnT mark for the first time during the current fiscal FY18, and was marked at 50.67 MnT in Nov’17.
Coal offtake has increased both on the monthly and yearly basis, and has also achieved the target of 50.48 MnT set for Nov’17.
Since, the beginning of the fiscal FY18, CIL had lowered coal production to clear off the excess pithead coal stocks, accordingly, coal offtake was more than the corresponding coal production for the month.
However, amid the declining coal stock at power plants, CIL has been progressively increasing its coal production. During Nov’17, Coal production has overtaken the corresponding offtake recorded during the month.
Coal offtake has also been moving in line with the production, with total offtake during Apr’17-Nov’17 rising 8% Y-o-Y to 367.93 MnT.
As a result of the higher coal offtake and increased rake movement, coal stock at the power plants has now reached 10.249 MnT as on 30 Nov’17, sufficient enough for 7 days of power generation.
Performance of CIL’s Subsidiary:
SECL’s coal production of 13.33 MnT stood highest during Nov’17, followed by MCL. The company however had failed to meet the monthly target, with only MCL, NEC and NCL being able to achieve their respective targets.
In terms of Coal Offtake, SECL total coal dispatch of 12.89 MnT was marked highest amongst the 8 subsidiaries of CIL in Nov’17.Besides, SECL along with NCL, WCL and NEC have achieved more than their offtake target for the month.
