Coal India Ltd (CIL) has recorded total coal dispatch of 42.1 MnT to the power plants during Dec’17, as per the data provided by Ministry of Coal. Coal dispatch had increased 6% over the year compared with 39.7 MnT in Dec’16.
CIL’s coal dispatch to the power sector had been rising in the recent months, amid the declining coal stock at the power plants. The coal dispatch recorded in Dec’17 was also the highest monthly total during the current fiscal FY18, marked 3% higher on the month compared with the dispatch of 40.9 MnT coal in Nov’17.
Total coal dispatch to the power sector has reached 333.2 MnT during Apr’17-Dec’17 period, 10% more than the total of 304.2 MnT recorded during the same period in FY17.
In order to pull the power plants out of the critical situation, CIL had supplied nearly 80% of the total coal dispatch of 421.4 MnT, to the power sector during Apr’17-Dec’17. As a result, the available coal stock at the power stations has now improved to 13.53 MnT as on 16 Jan’18, sufficient for 9 days of power generation.
CIL Coal E-auction:
The struggle for coal continues for the domestic buyers’ as they are forced to shift towards either to the import market or the spot coal auctions, to meet their demand.
As per the data provided by Ministry of coal, the total coal quantity allocated in the spot e-auction was 9.1 MnT in Dec’17, which was also the highest monthly allotment during FY18. The spot auctions had yielded 74% profit over the notified price during the month.
Total allocated quantity in Dec’17, rose 98% Y-o-Y compared with 4.6 MnT in Dec’16. CIL has managed total sales of 40.8 MnT coal through the spot e-auctions during Apr’17-Dec’17 period.
