CIL has achieved the highest coal dispatch to power plants in the month of October for FY18, with an increase of 18% Y-o-Y, according to the report provided by Ministry of Coal.
Coal dispatch to power plants stood 39.9 MnT in Oct’17 which was more than 90% of the total coal dispatched by CIL during the month. CIL had dispatched 33.8 MnT coal to power stations in Oct’16.
CIL had stepped up the coal supplies to power plants, in a period when power demand from thermal stations had went up substantially, necessitating higher coal requirement. The coal company had recorded increase in coal supplies to power plants for the third successive month, with total dispatch growing 9.6% Y-o-Y to 248.9 MnT during Apr’17-Oct’17, compared with 227 MnT in Apr’16-Oct’16.
The enormous growth in coal dispatch was resulted from CIL’s effort to increase coal rake movements to power plants in collaboration with Railways. Also, CIL had made provision for power plants situated within a radius of 50-60 km from its mines, to lift as much as they can by their own arrangements.
CIL’s efforts had come good, as the current coal stock at power plants’ has now increased to 8.516 MnT as on 16 Nov’17, which was recorded 7.866 MnT as on 31 Oct’17.
The trend of increasing coal supplies to power plant was sustained by CIL as the company made record dispatch of 250 coal rakes in a single day on 14 Nov. The company is now working to enhance loading target to 266 rakes per day which will further help both power and non-power sector in meeting their demands for coal.
