Bhubaneswar: Chrome ore transportation at the Sukinda Chrome valley in Jajpur district of Odisha blocked on Wednesday after local people mostly women agitated in front of the mines of all the Chrome miners including Tata Steel, Facor, Balasore alloys, JSL, IMFA and B. C. Mohanty mines. The local people have alleged that the miners are not doing enough for the development of local people, local area and the environment.
Major protest was seen at the Kalarangitha Chrome mines of FACOR as the protesters have alleged that the miner have contributed the least towards the local area development. FACOR has another operating mine at Ostapal in Sukinda.
Later the local administration and police intervened in the matter and it has been decided that a meeting will be held on 28th of this month with the local people and all the miners to chart out a solution of the issue.
Local law and order situation and smooth ore transportation at the Sukinda valley is crucial as almost all the Chrome produced in India comes from the Sukinda Chrome Valley which holds 98% of the total proved Chrome reserve of the country and any disturbance in the area effects the domestic and international Chrome ore and Ferrochrome prices.
