China, being one of the biggest producer of graphite electrode is planning to set up graphite electrode manufacturing unit in Iran. Recently Richard Shan a representative of China Center for International Economic Exchanges (CCIEE) met Mr. Ardashir Saad Mohammadi, IMIDRO Deputy and said: “The Company is ready to set up a 30,000 MT graphite electrode production plant with direct investment and EPCF form (Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Financing).
According to Shan, the project is implemented in two phases (the production of carbon from petroleum and the production of graphite electrode from carbon). He added: “Our request for the implementation of this plan is to provide the infrastructure.”
Ardeshir Saad Mohammadi, IMIDRO Deputy said “According to the plan Iran is to produce 55 MnT of crude steel by 2025, so at least 100,000 MT of graphite electrodes are needed, which is currently under construction by the Graphite Electrode Factory Ardakan (Iran) with capacity of 30,000 MT and now its equipment has been purchased. He continued “We welcome the proposal to build a new Graphite Electrode factory by the Chinese consulting company.”
Mr. Mohammadi pointed to the position of the southern shores of Iran, said ” The special area of the Persian Gulf mineral and metallurgical industry is a good place to build a graphite electrode factory because the infrastructure has been created and investment companies in this area will be exempted from tax for 15 years”.
It should be noted that the current design of the graphite electrode factory in the region of Ardakan is being implemented with the joint venture between IMIDRO, Mobarakeh Steel, Chador Malu and Khorasan Steel Co.
