Chinese Domestic Billet Prices Fall – 19 Apr’19 Update

The ex-factory price of general carbon billet in Tangshan ,Changli and Qian’an yesterday fell by RMB 30/MT to RMB 3,510/MT. Today, the transaction on billet turns better, and the price of finished products scales up after initial restraint. The specific transactions are as follows:

Billet: Mill direct sales has been smooth The ex-warehouse spot is at RMB 3,580-3,600/MT with acceptable transactions; billet inventory at warehouses Xiangyu Zhengfeng and Haiyi Hongrun totalled 442,500 tons, down 5,700 tons. The rebar futures lingers around low positions while spot market recovered from low level, as echoed by improved performance in finished steel transactions after price decline. It is expected that billet price may stabilise or go up by RMB 10/MT.

Construction steel: The construction steel market in Tangshan is stable, and the current market price of HRB400 of big specification is at RMB 4,020/MT, small size at RMB 4,120/MT, while coiled rebar at RMB 4,230/MT. The transaction is active.

HRC: The hot-rolled flattened sheet showed a slight decrease of RMB 10/MT and price of 1500mm wide flattened sheet by first-tier mills is at RMB 3,910/MT, second-ties mills at RMB 3,900/MT, and Q345 flattened at RMB 4,070/MT. Transaction is optimistic.

Medium plate: The price of medium plate is stable, with the mainstream price of general carbon plate 14-22mm at RMB 3,990/MT, and the low alloy plate at RMB 4,190/MT. The transaction is optimistic.
