China’s NDRC plans to build 100 mn t of coal reserves this year

China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) has announced that it would build 100 mn t of deployable coal reserves this year amid prevailing concerns related to shortage, as per reports. Exact details about the source of the reserves have not been divulged. However, NDRC expects both domestic coal output and imports to increase in the coming days in order to meet China’s rising power demand during summer. Experts say China’s power plant stockpiles have declined by 25% y-o-y, while coal-derived electricity production has risen by around 10% y-o-y this quarter.
