China’s monthly coal import at 21.8 MnT in Jun’16. Besides, country’s yearly coal imports recorded a sharp rise by 31% in the month.
China, the world’s largest coal importer, registered a significant rise of 15% in its monthly coal import during Jun’16. The country imported about 21.8 MnT of coal in the month with a notable rise of 2.8 MnT compared to May’16, according to data from the General Administration of Customs (GAC).
Chinese coal import has been increasing consistently this year since Apr’16. Speed of falling domestic coal production in China to limit industrial surplus capacity and carbon emissions resulted in sharp rise in coal sourcing this year.

China’s coal imports, including lignite, thermal and metallurgical coal, recorded a rise of 31% in Jun’16, compared with the same period in 2015.
In context to 2016, the first-half imports (Jan’16-Jun’16) of the country in 2016 were still up at 108 MnT, noted a sharp rise by 8.2% on yearly basis.
