China’s Graphite Electrodes Producer Anshan Carbon announces Production Cut

It seems that the pessimism in China’s Graphite Electrodes market over the past few months have slowly started to show its impact on the country’s electrodes producers.

Anshan Carbon which is a reputed GE producer in China’s Liaoning province with a capacity of 25,000 tonnes has announced its plans to cut its production significantly by 50% in July month. According to sources, the company plans to produce 850 tonnes of GE in the ongoing month, down from 1,700 tonnes in the previous month of June. The company informed that the production cuts are being carried out amid sluggish market conditions and regular equipment maintenance.|

Anshan Carbon majorly focuses on the production of RP and HP grade electrodes. Last year, in 2018 the company produced around 20,000 tonnes of GE and the volume is expected to slip by 25% this year against the previous one. The company is currently holding a stock of around 3,500 tonnes and have no plans to resume production in the next two months.

The GE prices in China continue to remain weak. At present, the general power and high power graphite electrode inventory are very high, the supply is exceeding the demand, the manufacturers’ bid is fierce and some graphite electrode manufacturers have plans to their stop production in the coming months. The ultra-high power electrodes of size 600 and 700mm exports are in good condition and their price continues to remain stable.

At present, China’s graphite electrode price of diameter 350-600mm: ordinary power is RMB 16000-18000 per tonne, high power is RMB 17000-25000 per tonne and ultra-high power is RMB 17000-60000 per tonne.
