China’s HRC production has widened its lead over rebar despite declines in both categories, reinforcing the shift in the country’s steel industry from construction-led demand towards manufacturing and downstream flat steel products. HRC output fell 4.4% y-o-y to 109.18 million tonnes (mnt) in January-June 2026, while rebar production dropped 10.7% to 87.82 mnt, according to National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) data.
