China’s coking coal imports fall sharply by nearly 40%, q-o-q, in Q1CY’22

China’s coking coal imports edged down by 37% q-o-q to 12.26 mnt. The highest shipments came from Russia at 3.3 mnt. Interestingly, data indicates 2 mnt of coking coal imports from Australia during the quarter despite China’s informal ban on Australian coal. This was due to the fact that China was heard having cleared a few stranded Australian coking coal vessels that had arrived before the ban.
