China: Steel imports drop nearly 30%, y-o-y, in CY’21

China’s steel imports in CY’21 fell to 14.27 mn t from 20.23 mn t in CY’20, a y-o-y drop of 29.47%, as per customs data.
High steel prices overseas and weak demand ensured that imports remained subdued.
Also, steel imports fell by 29.51% in Dec’21 to 1 mn t compared with 1.42 mn t in the same period last year.
