China: Steel billet prices drop by RMB 20/t ($3/t) d-o-d amid fall in rebar futures

Steel billet prices in China’s Tangshan dipped by RMB 20/t ($3/t) d-o-d to RMB 2,950/t ($402/t) on 8 Jan’25. Prices include 13% VAT.
Weak demand led to rising inventories. This, coupled with volatility in finished steel prices and a drop in rebar futures, weighed on billet tags.
Meanwhile, SHFE rebar futures (May’25 delivery) decreased by RMB 28/t ($4/t) d-o-d to RMB 3,211/t ($438/t) today.
