China: Steel billet imports fall nearly 60%, m-o-m, in April

China’s steel billet imports fell sharply by 57.07% m-o-m in Apr’22 to 0.31 mnt from 0.71 mnt in Mar’22, as per customs data.
Oman was the largest exporter with 0.12 mnt followed by Russia and Iran at 0.08 mnt and 0.05 mnt respectively.
Chinese steel production cuts, cost-effective domestic billets and the COVID-19 upsurge followed by lockdown restrictions kept import bookings subdued.
