China: Steel billet imports fall 30%, m-o-m, in Aug’22

China’s steel billet imports fell by 30.2% m-o-m in Aug’22 to 358,113 t from 513,077 t in July, as per customs data.
Preference for domestic billets, weak end-user demand and subdued finished steel sentiments continued to weigh on imports.
Import volumes fell by sharply 46% to 3.64 mnt in Jan-Aug’22 as against 6.77 mnt in the year-ago period.
