China: Shanxi issues work plan to increase coal output to 1.3 bnt in 2022

China’s largest coal-producing province, Shanxi, has recently issued a work plan to increase coal output by 106 mnt in 2022 to a total of 1.3 bnt annually to ensure sufficient supplies. The plan aims to increase coal output capacity further up to 1.35 bnt by 2023. The government has called for increased production of coal to stave off mass blackouts, as early summer heatwaves have prompted record electricity usage.
