The Energy Administration of Shanxi province, China’s top coal mining hub, has approved a local coal miner Pingshu Coal Industry Co., Ltd. to increase production capacity at its Wenjiazhuang Coal Mine in Shouyang county, Jinzhong city, to 5 million tonnes (t)/year (y), a huge jump from the mine’s previous capacity of 900,000 t/year, announced the firm’s parent Shanxi Huayang on 14 May.
Pingshu Coal Industry, mainly mining anthracite and meagre coal, is a subsidiary of Shanxi Huayang Group New Energy Co., Ltd. under the state-run Huayang New Material Technology Group, Mysteel Global has learned from public information.
In 2023, Shanxi province had added a total of 48 million t/y of coal production capacity as of end-September, data from its Energy Administration show.
