China’s leading private steel company, Shagang Group, has reduced and replaced No. 1 blast furnace, with a new 2,350 m3 furnace from which the first hot metal was tapped on 29 Mar’22. In the new furnace, 100% of BF gas and slag will be recycled and it is estimated that energy consumption per tonne of iron will be reduced by 8-10%, resulting in annual savings of 500,000 t of coal.
