Chinese imports of Australian ore reached 26 million tonnes in September, up by 34 percent compared with the previous month, figures from China’s customs authority showed on Monday.
Total iron ore imports in September rose 17.9 percent to 52.6 million tonnes after hitting a 20-month low in August, but most of the increase originated from Australia, the world’s biggest iron ore supplier.
Australian deliveries accounted for 49 percent of the total, up from 43 percent in August.
Imports from Brazil stood at 11.78 million tonnes in September, up 17 percent compared with August.
China imported 4.75 million tonnes of ore from India in September, down 6.7 percent compared with the previous month, with deliveries still hit by a ban on shipments in the state of Karnataka, one of the country’s biggest producers.
