Amid rising concerns over carbon emissions, 25 of a total of 52 China-backed overseas coal-fired power projects worth $65 billion have been shelved in the last six years, according to market reports. Only a few new coal-fired power projects worth less than $1 billion went into construction in 2020, while no new plants with Chinese financing had been announced last year. Russia and Zimbabwe had the most number of projects cancelled.
