China: Renewed COVID outbreak disrupts coal trade ahead of winter

China’s strict COVID-19 policy has been constraining coal supplies thereby keeping prices elevated just as the northern region is switching most of its coal-fired heating systems for winter. Disrupting coal trade, the country’s top three coal-producing regions have reported over 100 COVID cases, leading to strict transport curbs. A few coal mines in the Inner Mongolia region have already suspended production.
