China’s NDRC has capped thermal coal prices at RMB 900/t ($140.8) at pitheads in Shanxi province, as per sources. The move came in the backdrop of the government’s effort to stabilise coal prices. Some major buyers were heard locking in prices below RMB 1,000/t at ports. Supply in the country have been on a improving trend with daily output hitting a multi-year high of 11.9 mn t last week.
