- Total foreign investment worth over $745 mn
- Phase 1 operation targeted for June 2027
ArcelorMittal Jinxi New Materials Co., Ltd., a joint venture between ArcelorMittal and China Oriental Group, has officially launched the joint electrical steel brand ‘AMORNEX’ in the Binjiang Economic Development Zone of Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, and has entered the phase of installing major production facilities.
This project is a large-scale foreign investment project with a total investment of approximately RMB 5 billion (over $745 million), and is considered a key industrial project in Jiangsu Province and one of the largest single foreign investment deals in Changzhou City.
Annual capacity of 1.8 mnt of electrical steel sheets
This project is being pursued in a dual-system approach, consisting of an upstream raw material production base in Tangshan, Hebei Province, and a downstream processing and operation base in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, with the ultimate goal of establishing a total annual production capacity of 1.8 mnt of high-grade electrical steel sheets.
First, through the first phase of the first stage of the project, a production line for high-performance non-oriented electrical steel (NOGO) with an annual capacity of 500,000 t is being constructed with the goal of commercial operation in June 2027. The electrical steel produced here is scheduled to be supplied primarily to a wide range of high-value-added, eco-friendly industries, including drive motors for new energy vehicles (NEVs), high-efficiency industrial motors, and smart home appliances.
The Changzhou production base is currently accelerating its operations as it enters the installation phase for key steelmaking and rolling equipment, including the six-stage continuous cold rolling mill (CTCM). Simultaneously, construction of foundational infrastructure, such as a dedicated 220kV substation and power distribution system to support stable plant operations, is also proceeding smoothly.
