China’s met coke exports have doubled from 3.06 mn t in Jan-Nov’20 to 6.01 mn t in Jan-Nov’21. This is due to lower domestic downstream demand on steel production curbs in China. Moreover, record-high global coking coal prices boosted met coke demand from China. The world’s leading steel producer remained the major coke supplier to Japan, accounting for 93% of Japan’s total imports.
