China: Iron ore futures extend gains, steel futures surge

DCE iron ore futures today continued its uptrend as imports surged to a five-month high, signaling robust demand as the country grapples with rising commodity prices. Meanwhile, steel futures rallied by over 2.5% in the today’s trading session. The closing prices of the most-traded iron ore and steel futures on 13 Apr ’21 are as follows:

  • DCE iron ore Sep contract closed at RMB 1,022.5/t (+8.5)
  • SGX iron ore May contract closed at $166.1/t (-1.1)
  • SHFE rebar Oct contract closed at RMB 5,116/t (+131)
  • SHFE HRC Oct contract closed at RMB 5,403/t (+138)
