China: Graphite electrodes exports up by 37% during Jan-Jul’21

As per customs data, China’s Graphite electrodes (GE) exports in first seven months of 2021 stood at 0.25 mn t against 0.18 mn t in corresponding period of previous year, up by 38% y-o-y basis. While Turkey overtook Russia as the top export destination for Chinese GE in 2021, exports to South Korea more than doubled in 2021 (Jan-Jul) and stood at 15,795 tonne. Chinese GE exports to India this year have been almost negligible as Indian GE prices were cheaper against Chinese counterpart due to Beijing’s increased domestic GE requirements.
