China: Finished Steel Exports Fall Lowest Since Feb’14

Better margins in domestic market have resulted in significant fall in export volumes from China in Oct’17.

China finished steel exports registered decline of 35% on yearly basis and stood at 4.98 MnT in Oct’17 against 7.7 MnT in Oct’16.

If monthly comparison is made,China’s steel exports have come down by 3% in Oct’17 in contrast to 5.14 MnT in Sep’17.

In first ten months (Jan-Oct) of CY17 China’s steel exports witnessed downfall of 31% and stood at 64.39 MnT, against 93.07 MnT in the similar time-frame of previous year.

Better margins in domestic market keep steel makers away from export –
Monthly average domestic HRC price in eastern China was assessed at RMB 4,071/MT, (ex-works) in Oct’17 against RMB 4,150/MT (ex-works) in Sept’17. On the other hand monthly average Chinese HRC export offers declined from USD 585/MT, FoB China in Sept’17 to USD 575/MT, FoB in Oct’17.

Chinese steel imports decline 23% M-o-M in Oct’17-Chinese steel imports plunged by 23%,M-o-M basis in Oct’17.Country has imported 0.95 MnT in Oct’17 which was recorded at 1.24 MnT in Sep’17.However on yearly basis the same went down by 12% against 1.08 MnT in Oct’16.

During the time-frame of Jan-Oct of CY17 nation’s finished steel imports increased by 3% to 11.22 MnT against 10.88 MnT in similar time span of previous year.
