Japan Metal Daily: According to the Stainless Steel Branch of the China Iron and Steel Industry Association, China’s stainless steel crude steel production from January to September 2025 rose by 4.8% year-on-year to 30.462 mnt, reaching a new record high.
In the July to September quarter, production increased by 4% y-o-y to 10.294 mnt, crossing the 10 mnt mark for the first time in this period. During the same January to September timeframe, stainless steel exports rose 1.6% year-on-year to 3.783 mnt, setting another record high. This sustained export pressure from China continues to challenge global stainless steel markets, especially within Asia.
Breaking down production by major steel types for the January to September period, crude steel production increased by 6.3% to 15.621 mnt; low-nickel manganese steel rose 4.5% to 8.91 mnt; chromium steel increased modestly by 0.6% to 5.583 mnt; and two-phase steel experienced the highest growth at 14.7%, reaching 348,000 mnt. Imports of stainless steel declined significantly, totaling 1.138 mnt during this period, down 21.4% from the previous year.
