Met coke producers in China’s largest coal producing hub of Shanxi are cutting production due to reduced coking coal supply. The shortage in supply arose due to stringent transportation inspection enforced after the outbreak of the new COVID-19 variant in the province. Also, Chinese authorities have issued permits for trucks carrying coal but in small numbers.
