China: Coal supply shortage prompts provinces to plan power cuts

As the ongoing coal supply crunch in China continues, at least 16 provinces have planned cuts to reduce power consumption starting from late-Sep’21. Jiangsu, Yunnan, Zhejiang, and Shaanxi provinces have already reduced energy consumption in cement, steel, and chemical plants. The Chinese government aims to cut 3% energy consumption per unit of GDP in 2021 as part of its effort to reduce carbon emission by 2030.
