China: Coal stockpiles rise sharply amid higher output

Coal stockpiles at China’s power plants have increased above 170 mnt since Sep’22 in a bid to ensure sufficient energy supply for the winter, data from the National Energy Administration showed. Coal output totalled 3.32 bnt during Jan-Sep’22 period, up by 11% y-o-y, while coal production capacity has expanded by more than 62 mnt in 2022.
