China’s total raw coal production rose 10% Y-o-Y to 294.53 MnT in Apr’17. The country had produced 268.03 MnT in Apr’16.
Production has also increased during the first 4 months of 2017(Jan’17-Apr’17) by 2.5% Y-o-Y to 1.11 BnT.
However, coal output was down by 2% M-o-M compared with 299.76 MnT in Mar’17, according to the data released by National Bureau of Statistics.
Coal production in Shanxi, Inner Mongolia and Shaanxi region accounts for 67% of China’s total coal output. Production in these regions rose 5% Y-o-Y in Apr’17.
While coal production in Jiangxi, Hubei, and Chongqing regions, where medium and small miners are clustered, fell more than 30% over the same period.
Power Generation during Apr’17:
China’s power generation rose 5.4% Y-o-Y to 476.72 TWh (TeraWatt hour) in Apr’17. Total power generation over Jan’17-Apr’17 increased by 6.6% Y-o-Y to 1938.24 TWh.
Monthly Power generation from the thermal source was down during Apr’17 as China looked for hydropower generation during their monsoon period.
According to the Data provided by National Bureau of statistics, Monthly Thermal power output was down by 2% M-o-M to 352.18 TWh in Apr’17. However, thermal power output has increased 5.7% Y-o-Y compared to that in Apr’16.
Hydropower generation increased on the monthly basis from 72.5 TWh in Mar’17 to 74.34 TWh in Apr’17.
On the other hand, due to lower rainfall this year, hydro generation was down by 5.4% Y-o-Y in Apr’17.
