China: Coal imports surge m-o-m in Jul’25 but down y-o-y

China’s coal imports stood at 35.61 million tonnes (mnt) in Jul’25, rising 7.7% m-o-m from 33.04 mnt in June according to the General Administration of Customs. But, y-o-y, imports declined by 22.9% due to strong domestic supply. Also, China imported 257.31 mnt of coal and lignite during Jan-Jul’25, marking a 13% decline y-o-y.
