- In H1CY’24, China imported 250 million tonnes (mnt) of coal, an increase of 12.5% y-o-y against 222 mnt in H1CY’23, according to data from the General Administration of Customs.
- However, imports rose by 1.81% m-o-m to 44.60 mnt in Jun’24, compared to 43.81 mnt in May’24.
- Lower domestic coal production and increased electricity demand boosted imports.
