China: Coal imports drop nearly 10% m-o-m in Oct’25

China’s coal and lignite imports recorded an m-o-m fall of 9.3% to 41.74 million tonnes (mnt) in Oct’25, compared with 46 mnt in Sep. Additionally, cumulative imports for Jan-Oct’25 dropped by 11% to 387.62 mnt, against 435.3 mnt in the same period last year. The downtrend highlights China’s increasing reliance on domestic coal output while reducing dependence on overseas supplies.
